Metamorphosis
“Metamorphosis" weaves together compositions that, like a moth's transformation, evolve through changing motives, variations, and narratives. Each piece reflects the beauty of transformation and evolution in both nature and art.”~ Dr. William L. Lake, Jr.

The Capital Wind Symphony is thrilled to welcome Dr. Lake back to the Capital One Hall for an unforgettable evening of music. "Metamorphosis" opens with The Thunderer, one of Sousa's most iconic marches! Listeners will quickly recognize this most recognizable theme as it provides the foundation for After the Thunderer, a highly dramatic and lyric movement from the Symphony on Themes of John Philip Sousa, by Ira Hearshen. Viet Cuong, called “alluring” and “wildly inventive” by The New York Times, has created a marvelous tonal soundscape depicting the metamorphosis that occurs in the evolving life cycle of a moth! The second half opens with the inventive writing of J.S. Bach and closes with a complete performance of the Symphonic Metamorphosis by Paul Hindemith. This highly dramatic orchestral masterpiece is built on variations based on the themes of Carl Marie von Weber.
