Last season, we made history.

Two hundred thirty-nine piccolo players on one stage set a world record. A sold-out holiday concert reminded us all why we chose this art form. One hundred forty children sang from the balcony of the Center for the Arts. For the first time, we carried our mission to the east side of the Beltway — finding new communities and new audiences who had never heard us before. And a 35th anniversary season proved, beyond any doubt, that Capital Wind Symphony is not simply a fixture of the Washington musical landscape. We are one of its defining voices.

But here is what we know about organizations that are truly alive: the milestone is never the destination. It is the launching pad.

Founded in 1991 on a simple but powerful idea — bring together the finest musicians in the Washington, D.C. region and share world-class wind band music freely with the public — Capital Wind Symphony enters its 36th season with its eyes fixed forward. Under the leadership of Music and Artistic Director Dr. William L. Lake, Jr., we are deepening our presence in communities across the region, expanding the stories we tell from the stage, and pursuing platforms that will carry the Capital Wind Symphony name into the national conversation.

Our roster is built on volunteer commitment. Military musicians, freelance performers, music educators, and studio teachers who gather weekly from September through June — not for a paycheck, but for a shared passion for music and service. That spirit is the soul of this organization, and it is what makes every performance possible.

The work ahead is bigger than anything we have done before. And none of it happens without you.

Your gift to Capital Wind Symphony is a statement. It says you believe that world-class wind band music belongs in this region, that the communities we serve deserve this experience, and that the best of what we can become is still in front of us.
